Water Containers & Rain Barrels

If you are planning a garden this year this would be a good time to think about keeping it watered. I use a 275 gallon cistern to store water. This is great to use during the dry season.
During the downturn of the economy you may want to be prepared to raise some of your own food. You can do this in a small space or use containers. What ever you choose the reward will be fresh vegetables and only a few steps from your backdoor.
It is easy to grow a salad mixture with very little space. Also herbs can be grown with little maintenance.
Give it a try. You will be surprised what you can do and if you have more than what your family needs, share with your friends and neighbors.

STAY GREEN

Save water with a recirculating valve. This will keep your pipes from freezing, have hot water instantly and saves you money on your water bill.

Capture water in the air. When the seasons change and the humidity rises a dehumidifier will capture the moisture in the air and convert in into water. This water can be used to water your indoor plants. You can expect to recapture several gallons of water a day.

Water Containers & Rain Barrels

If you have uses for Gray Water, a great an inexpensive way to collect rain water are in 275 gallon containers. This container can connect to your downspout and after a few moderate rains you will have enough water to wash your cars, water your garden and even give your pets a bath. In emergencies you will have water to flush toilets and water to bathe with. Be prepared and plan ahead. It's up to you. It is also a good idea to store drinking water in a barrel that is safe to store food related items.

EARTH DAY

A small way but effective way to curb runoff water from your property is to capture the runoff in a rain barrel. Attach a hose to the barrel and you can direct the water to your lawn or garden. Also you will have stored water for future use.

Rain Barrels

Water your plants and gardens with natural rain. Your plants will love you for it and best of all, it's free.

The amount of rainwater you will collect is going to determine your collection area. The roof of your home or garden shed will be the most practical areas to catch and collect rain. Measure the outside of your home including the overhang. This will give you the approximate area for collecting rain. For eample an area of 1,000 square feet you can collect approximately 600 gallons for every 1 inch of rainfall. The Carolina Rain Barrel comes in a kit with complete instructions or fully assembled and ready to connect to your downspout.

The Carolina Rain Barrel is made from recycled material and has an approximate 60 gallon capacity. Its opening head allows for easy cleaning and includes a safety locking band to seal the barrel. You will have a fitting in order to link to another barrel and overflow connector for attaching your garden hose for overflow.
